Colors & Adjective Agreement

Most colors add -e in feminine form (if they don't already end in -e):

✅ noir → noire (black)

✅ vert → verte (green)

✅ violet → violette (purple — doubles consonant!)

✅ rouge → rouge (red — already ends in -e, no change!)

✅ bleu → bleue (blue)

Some colors are invariable — they never change!

✅ orange stays orange for M and F

✅ marron (brown) stays marron

💡 These are usually colors that come from nouns (orange = the fruit, marron = the chestnut).

Unlike English, color adjectives come AFTER the noun:

✅ une voiture rouge = a red car (lit. "a car red")

✅ un chat blanc = a white cat

❌ NOT: une rouge voiture

For plural nouns, add -s to the color adjective:

✅ des robes rouges (red dresses — plural F)

✅ des chiens noirs (black dogs — plural M)

✅ des chapeaux verts (green hats — plural M)
