Days, Months & Dates

The first day of the month uses premier (1er), not "un":

✅ le 1er janvier (January 1st) — NOT le un janvier

✅ le 1er mai (May 1st — Labour Day in France!)

✅ All other dates use regular numbers: le 2, le 15, le 31...

Days of the week work differently depending on meaning:

✅ Lundi, je travaille. — On Monday (this coming Monday), I work.

✅ Le lundi, je travaille. — On Mondays (every Monday), I work.

💡 No article = specific day. LE + day = habitual/every week!

Unlike English, French does NOT capitalize days and months:

✅ lundi (not Lundi), janvier (not Janvier)

❌ NOT: Je suis né en Janvier. → ✅ Je suis né en janvier.

💡 This is a very common mistake for English speakers learning French!

Use en before months and years:

✅ en janvier (in January)

✅ en 2024 (in 2024)

✅ au mois de janvier (in the month of January — formal)

✅ Je suis né(e) en avril 2005. (I was born in April 2005.)
