When people ask Lena what she does for a living, she says she's an architect. But Lena designs more than buildings. She designs her life.

At 25, Lena was working in a grey cubicle in a bank, reviewing loans she didn't understand for people she would never meet. She had studied economics because it was "practical." She had taken the job because it was "stable." She had stayed because leaving felt "risky." Every morning, she would get on the subway, stare at her reflection in the dark window, and wonder how she had ended up there.

The turning point came when her company sent her on a business trip to Barcelona. While she was walking through the Gothic Quarter one morning, she stopped in front of a building she had never seen before — a Gaudí masterpiece half-hidden behind scaffolding. She stood there for twenty minutes, completely still, while tourists rushed past her. She didn't know why, but she started crying.

She went back to her hotel, opened her laptop, and researched architecture schools. Three months later, she had resigned from her banking job, enrolled in evening classes, and started a portfolio. She was 26.

It took four years. There were nights when she studied until 3am. There were months when she could barely pay her rent. There were people who told her she had made a terrible mistake. But there were also moments — when a design worked, when a client said "this is exactly what I imagined," when a building she had drawn on paper became real stone and glass — that made every single difficult day completely worth it.

Today Lena is 34. She leads a small studio that designs community spaces and cultural centres. She has worked in Brazil, Portugal, and Morocco. She doesn't earn as much as she did in banking. But she wakes up every morning genuinely excited to go to work.

She says the secret is simple: "Stop designing a life that looks good from the outside. Start designing one that feels right from the inside."
